Key Expectations
Across all components, students are expected to:
Demonstrate critical thinking and independent interpretation
Analyse how language, structure, and style shape meaning
Support ideas with relevant textual evidence
Write in a clear, organised, and formal style
Manage time effectively during examinations
The IB English course is academically demanding, requiring students to balance analytical depth, structured writing, and clear communication under timed conditions.

Across all boards, special attention is given to:
Vocabulary Enhancement | Grammar Accuracy | Writing skills | Pronunciation and Spoken English
The content studied in IB English focuses on how writers use language and structure to communicate ideas and influence readers. Through the analysis of literary and non-literary texts, themes such as identity, power, and social inequality are presented using techniques like symbolism, tone, and imagery. As a result, one develops stronger analytical skills and gains more confidence in supporting ideas with evidence from the text.
